Feeding

Dahlias that are expected to produce fresh flowers for picking daily will need a great deal of feeding.

Compost tea will feed the ground so that they have nutritious soil to grow in, while a good nitrogen feed such as nettle tea will promote strong growth and help your dahlias survive slug or aphid attack.

A potassium-rich feed such as comfrey tea, applied weekly throughout the flowering season after mid-June, will promote the formation of lots of great big (cash-flow-generating) flowers. See Chapter 1, page 28, for recipes for these liquid feeds.
